Emergency Preparedness: What to Do Before, During, and After Severe Weather

Severe weather can happen any time of year—from summer storms and hurricanes to winter ice and snow. Being prepared ahead of time can help protect your home, your safety, and your peace of mind.

Here’s what we recommend all tenants do when inclement weather is in the forecast.

Before the Storm

Preparation is key. Take a few simple steps now to be ready if the weather turns bad.

Stay Informed

  • Follow local weather updates through TV, radio, or trusted weather apps.
  • Sign up for local emergency alerts if your city or county offers them.

Create an Emergency Kit

Stock up on basic supplies in case of power outages or travel restrictions. Include:

  • Flashlights and extra batteries
  • Bottled water and nonperishable food
  • Phone charger (preferably battery-powered or portable)
  • First aid kit
  • Blankets or warm layers

Secure Your Home

  • Bring in or secure any outdoor furniture, planters, or loose items.
  • Keep windows and doors closed and locked.
  • Check that your flashlights and smoke detectors are working.

During the Storm

Your safety comes first. Stay inside and avoid unnecessary travel.

Avoid Using Elevators

If the power goes out, elevators may stop working. Stick to stairs during severe weather events.

Keep Devices Charged

If you think you might lose power, fully charge your phone, laptop, and any backup battery packs early on.

Report Emergencies Promptly

If you experience major flooding, damage, or an urgent maintenance issue, call our emergency line at:

For non-urgent issues, please use your tenant portal or email us at hello@mcepm.com.

After the Storm

Once it’s safe, take a few steps to assess and report any issues.

Inspect Your Unit

Check for:

  • Water intrusion (leaks or flooding)
  • Loss of power or heat
  • Broken windows or other visible damage

Please report any concerns as soon as possible so we can address them promptly.

Be Patient with Response Times

During major weather events, our maintenance team and vendors may experience delays due to road closures or power outages. We’ll always prioritize emergencies and keep you updated as best we can.
